It has come up and I have nothing to do tonight... so here you go...


There is a few different ways of doing it. I chose to do it buy hand, in my opinion it looks better.

Here are the few tools you will need
110-2000 grit sand paper
Sanding block
Spray bottle
Rags
Aluminum polish
And a whole lot of elbow grease....


Most frames, and swingarms are going to be painted or at least clear coated.
I started off with 110 grit with a palm sander very light, to get the paint off.
Next I went to 220 with a flexible sanding block(so not to leave finger marks), in straight long smooth lines(so you don't create dips and or waves)
Again with the 220 go across the the lines you just made to make a cross pattern.
Move to 300grit, use the same 2 steps with the 220 grit.
With a fresh piece of 300, use nice long smooth strokes the length of the frame.
till cross pattern is gone.
Next to 400, use the same steps as the 300.
Next to the 600 and start wet sanding. using a spray bottle with a few small drops of dish soap, spraying the frame keeping the paper and the frame clean with water. If you here a corduroy rubbing sound stop and wipe off frame and spay it down again and spray the paper really good.
Use the same steps as the 600 with 800 grit.
Now to 1000 grit no more crossing over your long smooth lines up the frame. keep it straight. do the same with 2000 grit
now your done sanding

Now time to polish
clean the frame to make sure all the aluminum dust is off the the mettle

I use mothers aluminum polish
You can rub it in buy hand or if you have a buffer it makes it that much faster.

If your going buy hand use a the long smooth stokes

If you use the buffer you will have to hand polish after to get out the swirls.
Shine to your desire, step back and look at your hard work


and maybe it will look as good as mine [8D]

 

Ya know what works better, I did this on my Hubby's 77 KZ ,airplane paint stripper. Still takes some elbow grease but, about a buck twenty worth of elbow grease, LOL, It's thick and you take a q-tip or a cotten ball and glob it on for a few mins. rub it off with a brillo pad and it looks like silver, (or like butta, if youre jewish) Than you take the MOTHER'S Best **** on the market and polish that baby up......will look like new! I know what I am talking about believe me!
