83 KZ750 L3
Seeking mufflers for 83 KZ750 L3. OEM no longer available (I've tried North America and Great Britain). Must say I am greatly disappointed that Kawasaki does not provide adequate support for its products. Bike is original condition (one owner, 24000 miles, garage kept) and I am attempting to maintain it in stock format, so any after market mufflers will have to be a reasonable facsimile of the factory originals. So far I have had no success, its like the L3 is rare or something. Is there anyone out there with an L3 with similar problem? Does anyone have any suggestions or leads? Any and all comments welcome.

I know your post was a long, long time ago, but I'll reply anyway. I owned a new '83 KZ750-L3 in 1983 and kept it about 5 years. I always wished I'd kept it because I loved it so much, and just 2 weeks ago I found another one in the MidWest and bought it. Woohoo! (BTW, the only thing not original on it WAS the exhaust. It had a 4-into-1 Supertrapp which I hate; hubby is mounting a 4-into-1 Vance & Hines on it for me. I do like that.) In regard to being "rare or something"... yes, it is. That particular model was only produced one year--1983, and they only made 2700 of them. (I have #585 now in this 2nd one.) L3 parts are very hard to come by, but many of the 1982 GPz750 parts will work. The pipes, of course, are completely different. Hang in there, and maybe you'll find some. Just know you've got something that at least I consider very special and wonderful. I love mine. Blessings to you. ___Granny Green Streak

question/statement; if you use the gpz header and pipe, this will throw off the power curve. Which then means a cam degree, a head gasket swap and timing/af adjustments. That takes some time to get all of that in synch to work for your area. not many riders spend that time on that ride to get it fine tuned. Wish ya the best in finding the exhaust then.
edit: I have not played with the kz 750 yet. Just speculating

With the 4-2 you could do any number of home brew mods from slip fits from MAC if they still have them to welding on a tip and fitting cannisters. Kerker-Supertrapp sells a variety of universal ends that could be fitted and look good. Check them out.
If you really want to go on the cheap you could do a double shot of this mod some KLR riders have done. Look at some of the heavier duty glass packs or maybe some resonators to find the right size and look. Then have a metals shop roll a set of stainless steel sleeves to wrap around them and have them tacked on to improve the look even more. Some KLR riders have even welded on turn outs. Don't sell it short, It could be done to look good, after all, what are most slip fit sportbike mufflers other than a connector pipe and a can. We used a stainless wrap on a VTR250 that had scratches on the muffler from going down - looked pretty trick.
