Hey all, new KLX250 owner.

Picked up a nice like 2012 a few weeks ago. Owner didn’t advertise it as lowered, but I noticed that the fork was dropped about 1.25”, with spacers in handlebar clamp so they clear the top of the forks. The rear shock dogbones are about 130mm eye to eye. I think the stock one is 119.5? No brand or anything stamped on em.

Im figuring the rear is dropped about 1.5”, does that sound right? And if so, is the fork adjusted right to keep the geo good? Ultimately not mad that it’s lowered, I’m a shorter rider anyway. Just wanna understand what I have and if I need to tweak anything.

Glad to be here and appreciate the help!

First of all Im a newbee the forum so I do hope Ive come in at the right place .I own a zx9r and have done for many years , I really love this bike and have ridden many miles on it . Im really hopeing that some kind sole out there could help me start a fault finding mission to diagnose a 10 amp fuse blowing when the throttle is cranked open .Im not scared of wielding a spanner around . The fuse controls the ignition side and as I said once I open up the throttle I loose all of the electrics .My first thought is either the fuel pump or ignition module unless ive missed something .Any help would be amazing and a very big thankyou to anyone who responds

I've been a very bad boy! I've been neglecting my KLX250S and let it sit for at least a year in a half without riding it. I know, I know… and yes, I definitely know better.

A couple months ago I noticed a puddle of fuel on the floor, so I already knew what was coming. But it wasn’t until gas prices started skyrocketing that I finally decided to address the issue so I could start riding the bike more often again.

After topping it off with fresh gasoline and some fuel cleaner, I got her running again… well, for a few weeks. Then last week I went to ride again and the bike wouldn’t idle. Ugh. The thought of removing the carburetor and cleaning it was not something I wanted to deal with.

While researching fixes, I stumbled across a really cool video on YouTube. This was probably the easiest fix for a clogged pilot jet I’ve ever seen.

Here are the steps:
1. Turn the fuel off at the petcock.
2. Move the bike out to the driveway because this hack is messy.
3. Put a large bowl under the fuel lines.
4. Loosen the screw at the bottom of the carburetor a couple turns.
5. You’ll probably see some fuel start dripping out.
6. Disconnect the fuel line from the petcock to the carb.
7. Use compressed air to blow through the fuel line. I used about 80 PSI. This blew all kinds of crap out of the carb.
8. Button everything back up and reverse the steps.
9. If it still has issues, do it a second time.

To my surprise, it worked perfectly. The fuel that came out had quite a bit of debris in it. Fired the bike back up afterward and it ran smooth as ice.

Hi all,

Just bought a 2008 Kawasaki Ninja 250R, EU model (EX250K8F, so the EFI/DFI variant — Keihin TTK28 throttle bodies). Looking for input on a starting and idle issue before I dive deeper.

Bike info:

2008 EX250K8F (EU EFI version)

31,500 km / 19,600 miles

Bought used 5 days ago

Previous owner said it hadn't been serviced for ~2 years, didn't know when the owner before him serviced it

Sat for periods between rides per the owner. Had been sitting in winter storage until a couple of days ago when he drove it to my house.

Symptoms:

Hard cold start — multiple cranking attempts needed

When it does fire, it dies almost immediately unless I keep the throttle slightly open

Idle hunts wildly between ~500 and ~3000 rpm, never really settles

Dies on its own at stops or after a short time at idle

Once warm and if it is held revving, it runs (haven't pushed it hard yet)

Before I dump what I've already tried — based on these symptoms alone, what's your gut reaction? Would love to hear what experienced 250R folks suspect before I bias the conversation with my own theories.

Important context: Seller rode it to me on delivery day (so it was already warm when I test rode it) and it ran fine during the test ride. Two days later, cold start from my garage — all the issues showed up.

What I've tried so far:

Read the service manual self-diagnosis procedure

Located the Y/BK self-diagnosis terminal under the seat

Removed the dummy plug

Grounded the terminal to battery (–) with a wire

Tried both Dealer Mode 1 (current faults) and Mode 2 (history)

No response from FI indicator at all — no codes, no constant light, nothing

FI lamp does behave normally at ignition ON (lights briefly, goes out)

Fuel pump prime is audible at ignition ON

Per the service manual: "When no service code is displayed, the electrical parts of the DFI system has no fault, and the mechanical parts of the DFI system and the engine are suspect."

So I'm reading this as: probably mechanical, not electronic. But I'm also not 100% sure I did the self-diagnosis correctly — getting literally no response at all seems odd.

My planned next steps:

Full basic service: oil + filter (HF401), spark plugs (NGK CR8E x2), air filter (HFA2505)

Throttle body cleaning with carb cleaner

Vacuum leak test around intake boots (spray cleaner around intake while idling)

New fuel, in case the gas is old

Brake fluid and coolant change while I'm at it (overdue)

Then re-evaluate

Specific questions:

Does this sound right as a starting plan, or am I missing something obvious?

Any common gotchas on the K-variant specifically? (Lots of J-variant advice online, K is harder to find)

Was I doing the self-diagnosis procedure correctly? Anything I might be doing wrong since I got no response at all?

Subthrottle valve actuator / IACV issues — these symptoms seem to match, but I have no codes to confirm. Worth focusing there?

Thanks in advance — appreciate any input!

Hey all. S I bought a 454 ltd engine and am finding parts hard to find. I am in need of almost everything ignition wise. CDI, coils, etc. also exhaust and cooling. I am trying to put this into a buggy. I have been looking on marketplace and eBay for parts, but they are slim. Are there other alternatives for ignition parts? I can fabricate an exhaust and modify a radiator for it I am pretty sure. I bought new carbs already. Just gotta figure out the ignition stuff. If anybody knows of anything that might help, I would really appreciate it. Thanks in advance.
