Default tires

Newbie ? - Don't flame me if it's the wrong place, but I didn't find prior posts that answered this ?

Anyone tried the Pirelli Diablo Stradas yet? I have an '03 ZZR1200, and the OE D220 Dunlop (rear) is worn out. As my confidence/skill increase I want a tire that sticks, but since most of the riding is by necessity commuting I want mileage too....from what I've seen this Pirelli could be a good choice (extended mileage version of the Diablo), but I don't know squat about tires except soft=handling but low miles, hard=good miles but not-so-good handling. Looking for opinions/help.....
While we're at it, other tires I've been told about are the BT020, D208, and a Maxxis (don't remember the model) that my dealer parts guy likes.

TIA for any help

Haven't tried Pirelli's myself. I've been running Dunlop D208Z's on my ZRX1200R for quite awhile now and I like them. I get about 5K out of them. The D220's you have are pretty good and are a high mileage tire. Metzler Z6 are good for mile and some stickiness. Personally stay away from the BT020. That's what came factory on my bike and got only 8K from the rear and 9K from
the front.

A ZZR is a pretty heavy bike. I don't think you will get decent mileage out of a 208 or a Metzler M1. Like I said, I get 5k from
208's and my bike weighs 540 wet. Ad my 200 lbs and it's a lot of weight.

I don't have any complaint about the D220, I'm at 7700 miles on it since new, but I've heard it's not the best handler; as I get more 'experimental' with the limits on the bike I don't want a nasty surprise mid-corner....I've heard good things about some of Pirellis compounds on their tires, thought I'd check for opinions...thanks

Kevyztoys is right about the weight factor but I have had the 208's and they are nice. Great wear and not bad traction.

I have not tried the stradas but have only heard good things from other riders.

But hands down the best handling tire I have tried is Michelin Pilot Powers. I have about 2k on them and they are wearing nicely. They have a herder compound on the middle for your commuting and softer on the sides for the twisties.
