Ehh... aren't the hoover tubes a psuedo ram-air?

no... at least not on the 92. they simply route air under the tank and across the reg/rect as cooling. i've been told that on the 93 it was changed to a ram air setup but, i really have no idea if they are full of it or not.

I had a 93, it was positive ram air... very nice treat... but from what I recall from back then - it was just supposed to be a better/modded version of the hoover tubes... been so long ago I am not 100% either way right now, but I do know my 93 was full of it... ram air that is

allright... curiousity got the best of me. so, after a trip to the garage... where the hoover tubes enter the tank, the oriface runs straight down thru the tank and dumps any forced air on top of the valve cover.

having said that, it would be very hard to actually get a ram air setup to fit between the tank and the stuff underneath... there's already a minimum of wasted space. after a number of google attempts, i'd consider a setup to be nonexistent.

Hrm. Any chance of re-routing the hoover tubes towards the airbox? The results could be interesting.

since the airbox is modded with 4 holes about an inch and a half apiece i was thinking of just running velocity stacks with the individual k&n filters.

less of a jetting nightmare with a more constant airflow

but there is a plastic cover over the engine. I did seal the airbox down to the frame and popped the grommets out of the airbox. I did not dyno it so cannot prove anything. But 156mph on radar in 5th gear is not bad. '90 zx7 here of course you guys already knew that. lol
