BattRECON 11-23-2005, 11:40 AM Just put the cash down for a '95 ZX9. I'm in New Orleans working until Nov 30 and I can't wait to get back to Georgia and get my hands on it. The 9 is a cow and I have every intention of putting it on a (carbon) fiber diet ASAP. Does anyone know if the '95 ZX9 and '98 ZX9 swingarms are interchangeable? Even if a small amount of modification is required. What about shock alignment? I have a question tho, I'm going to be repainting the bike here this winter and have a few things I want to do. the front turn signals look like crap because someone put aftermarket ones on and they don't cover the holes. The only mod I have at this time is a Fully Muzzy carbon system, not even a K&N yet :( when I throw the K&N on there I will more than likely have to rejet. anyone know what jets I will be using for 5-9k feet? also are they all the same jets or will I need to put different sizes in different spots ( my kfx 700 , v twin quad had to put a smaller size up front ( 2 carbs) thanks in advance for all your help. Welcome to KF! 99 Kawasaki zx9 10-11-2007, 11:18 PM i know im proud to be one.. they are nice bikes... they are quicker than some 1000s out there if they are tuned right.. mattkinnamon 10-13-2007, 11:28 PM I know a lot of you have slip ons. Did you have to rejet the carbs for that? I'm working on saving up for the slip on, but in the meantime was thinking about a K&N to get it breathing better. I can hang with my brother's R1 once I'm moving, but it just drags its feet getting off the line...no bottom end power. Should that amount of air increase require jetting or just an adjustment? I'm only dreading the jetting issue cuz I was recently in the carbs getting varnish out. Also jetting seems to be a hit or miss science. Any suggestions welcome. sam 11-19-2007, 09:39 PM port townsend wa. I have a modified 1995 zx9r. jeffzx9 11-19-2007, 09:50 PM Sam, glad to have another '95 owner among us!! Any one have any suggestions? danmarine08 08-22-2008, 12:15 PM Hey I am in that club now. just bought a 97 zx9 and it is the best ! I love it. hit me up Extreemdriver1 04-23-2009, 06:15 AM I'm new here, but figured one of you or maybe a bunch of you might be able to help me. I found a 99 ZX-9R for sale, it's been down and needs some fairings replaced, it also seems to idle rough and has very little acceleration. At least compared to my VFR750. What I want to know is what a good price to pay would be. I know they Blue Book at 4455 from a dealer and at around 3400 for trade in. But thats with everything in good condition. Just looking for a little input before I buy it. jeffzx9 04-24-2009, 01:36 AM I was beginning to wonder if srob and I were the only guys who still owned a ZX9!!! Depending on the plastic needs, miles, overall condition, sounds like $2500 would be within range. A '99 should wax a VFR750. If this bike is running rough, take a very close look at the fluids, plugs, front forks and bump stops (see if the forks are straight!) side covers (and radiator) for leaks. I'm guessing (hoping?) it might just be bad gas and basic neglect causing it to run rough. How many miles? ANY service records? jeffzx9 04-24-2009, 01:41 AM Oh, by the way, WELCOME to the forums! Even if I didn't own one, I'd highly recommend a ZX9 to anyone. They're a little porky; not my first choice for a track bike, but for just about everything else on asphalt you'll not be disappointed. A very solid everyday workhorse that can also hold it's own pretty well in competent hands. Extreemdriver1 04-24-2009, 10:33 AM The bike only has a little over 13000 miles on it. It's been jetted and has an after market exaust. Needs a new battery, thats expected though. Good possibility on the old gas though. There were no leaks that I found and the plasics are just scrached up except for the left upper fairing by the wind screen. Over all seems to be a pretty solid bike. I'm pretty sure I'll buy it even at the 3000 he was originally asking. Thanks for the input on the prising though. Some of the guys down here at the bike shop said it would be a good deal. once I pick it up I'll have them go over it. Then turn the VFR into just a track bike. jeffzx9 04-24-2009, 12:21 PM The VFR will out torque you up to about 6-7K, but once the 9 hits 8-9K, it's no contest. Could be the 9 has slightly wrong jets. I re-jetted mine, and it runs GREAT in colder weather, but as the temps go up, I lose top end. The 2ndaries are just a tick too big. The 9's also are "vented" really well; which means the gas will lose it's fizz earlier, the longer it sits. I drain my bowls every spring or after a couple months if it just sits. The 9's aren't going to win any beauty contest, but they're a really solid bike that will run forever with routine maintenance. Good luck! Let me know if I can help. jeffzx9 05-11-2009, 12:35 PM Hey ZX9 owners! I know our bikes are bullet-proof and run forever, but let me hear from you! This column is too quiet!!! Hello.... Hello...... zx9forsale 05-18-2009, 04:36 PM yeah mines for sale.... its a great bike... but i have to off it jeffzx9 05-18-2009, 08:41 PM Got any pics? What year? Actually (so I don't get flamed by the moderators) this belongs in the classified section of the forums. caryabhi127 05-28-2009, 04:18 PM I just sold my Ninja 4 days earlier. Extreemdriver1 05-29-2009, 09:34 AM Had a mech look at the zx9 I just got. He said it was jetted all together wrong for bottom end. He's changing the jet to make it more what I want. We'll see how it does over the next couple months as I get more used to it. I also found out that because the VFR is a V engine not an inline that it will have more bottom end naturally than the inlines of the same size. Less rotating weight. Transfers to greater low end torque and faster acceleration. Put a Muzzy exaust on the VFR and it still sounds quiet compared to the zx9 with the same exaust though. You mentioned draining the bowls if it sit for a month or so, I live in Florida, there isn't much time you can't ride. A couple weeks here and there if you don't ride in the rain, but I don't care if I get wet as long as I'm riding. jeffzx9 05-31-2009, 05:11 AM Extreem, congrats on the zx9! What does your mech mean when he says "jetted wrong for the bottom end?" I'd be careful twiddling with jets if it runs smooth, now. If you're looking for grunt off the line, change your sprockets. V's of the same displacement also have bigger pistons (cuz there's only 2.) More bang per stroke = more torque. Extreemdriver1 05-31-2009, 09:10 PM What he was basicly saying is that it's dumping more fuel than it needs to build power at the lower end, over loading it. It made it run rough at lower speeds. And as for the VFR and it's V engine, it still has four cylinders, they are in a V instead of inline, making less rotating weight. Thus more bottom end torque. Dragone#19 05-31-2009, 09:20 PM Right on extreemdriver1. By chance, what is a VFR putting out for torque in the 0-7k range anyways? jeffzx9 06-02-2009, 04:04 PM OOOps; my bad. Never really fiddled much with V motors. durable1 06-30-2009, 01:37 AM I'm still enjoying mine! wmwo 08-13-2009, 01:25 PM had her 2 weeks great i'm over in the u.k well wales to be sure ;) Tilikum98 03-20-2010, 05:42 PM i got my 1998 zx9r for my first bike 3 weeks ago. i have put about 1500 miles on it easy now. it was in the shop for a week and a half getting a wheel bearing also haha. i ride alot all over. its my daily driver cus my jeep is broken from offroading it pretty hard. this is my first bike, and i love it. picked it up pretty cheap, has been repainted, and seems pretty straight. its got a full muzzy exhaust, and just some cosmetic stuff. i plan to do a stage 1-3 jet kit, and +4 timing adjuster, then a -1,+2 sprocket set. i live in phoenix az if anyone wants to ride. i just moved here from st. louis a month ago. |
