Default I'm painting my nasty looking helmet today

I got it for free from the kid I'm buying/bought the bike from (It'll be paid off in two weeks) and he had put it through hell and back. It's got lots of scratches not to mention a big nasty skull on the top, stars on the front, and an "ace of clubs" on the back. I tried to add some pictures for amusement purposes but I can't get the image up. It's saying it's too large but I shrunk it pretty small. ANYWAYS.. anyone done this and if so, any tips or tricks, specific paints/primers, etc?

I would say start by sanding with a fine grit paper to scuff up the shine. Fill the scratches with bondo and get the helmet smo0th. Then paint with flat black, probably about 10 coats.

I am only suggesting the flat black because I think it will finish out the best. It will be harder to get back to a shinny finish like the helmet had before.

Post some pics of the process in the DIY section.

if you want a hell of a shine, hit it with at least 7 coats of paint and 10 coats of clear.

I painted it. It looks like crap. And I don't really care.

Send it!

I have one with some scratches that I wanted to fix but thought it added some character to it. Besides reminds me to watch my arss every time I use it.

Use Krylon paint for plastic stuff. Sand like said above w/ fine paper. Apply several thin coats ( like 10) then finish w/ clear coat.

yeah, I'll send it if you'd like. It came with the bike and it's a size to large and I'm planning on getting a new helmet pretty soon so it's more for one of my ladies to use if needs be so it's not all that important to me and I don't care that much what it looks like right now, it's just designed to protect my head and block the wind so it does it's job and it does it well. if you email me your address I'll get it to you by friday ( part of my job is shipping stuff so that won't be too difficult) and send you a return label on it and a couple bucks for paint if you'd like.. and maybe a couple of good cd's depending on what you like. my email is dallinking@hotmail.com.
