slip-on or full system????

Hi,
As you may know, I'm new. I have a question so any input would be greatly appreciated.

I'm in the market for a Micron exhaust for my '02 zx9r. I would like to get the full race system (approximately $1000 with jet kit) but am having a hard time getting over that "cost" hurdle. A slip-on would only run around $350. I know a full system would give me more power and less weight than a slip-on, but is it really worth it?

Now that's out of the way... the question is how much more power do you really want? If the slip-on will give you the power your looking for the stick with that, but if you really crave power then I would say get the whole system. It will cost you more in the long run to upgrade in pieces then to do it in one shot.

I would have to say get a slip-on and save your money for sprockets the best bang for your buck. the seat the butt dyno will be much happier
If you have the money spend it on a full system it will help but if you want a faster acceleration go with a set of nice sprockets

I haven't even thought of sprockets, that is a good idea. I'll have to look into that. Heck, who knows. If sprockets aren't to costly I may just have to get both...though something tells me that's just wishful thinking since aftermarket parts tend to run up the bills. Then again, I have been on the road quite some time...and the 9r has been waiting, I should drop some cash on it.

Any suggestions on sprockets?

a good set of sprocket will run you about $75

my sunstar +2 rear was $25 my sprocket speicalest -1 front was $45 I think[>:]

don't forget that it's good practice to change the chain when you change sprockets out. That way everythings new and will wear correctly. I know you can find complete kits that have all of the pieces to re-gear.

Thanks for all your help.

I went ahead and ordered a Carbon Fiber Micron Slip-on for my 9r...can't wait.

Besides a slight loss of top speed, are there any other drawbacks to getting new sprockets and chain? You know, something I may need to know.

Hi Andy, The change in sprockets, depending in which direction you go, will have you in a high RPM when running down the road. This, of course, will lower you gas milage. No big deal and a good trade-off IMHO.

As for the slip on, the Micron is sweet. Dont expect any increase in power thou. 1 to 5 possible but the slip-on makes a much better sound than stock[sm=burnout.gif]

I tracked my slip-on and should get it tomorrow...I'm like a kid at christmas.

I agree with you Zbike, that would be a well worth trade-off.

Anyway, this may be a stupid question, but bear with me. For acceleration, would I want to do something like what onewheel has (+2 rear, -1 front)?

Your top speed will drop but you will gain acceleration.
