Need help upgrading my 05 klr 250
Anyone out there know where to find some performance parts for an 05 KLR 250, i know this bike isn't meant for alot of speed but i'd like to tweak it as much as i can to see what i can do. any help will be greatly appreciated!!!! Thanks!!
thanks marty that page was incredible!!!!!!! now i'm just looking for the best exhaust and air filter, i'm looking at an FMF or a BIG GUN and possibly a K&N filter, anyone have any advice???????
This is a personal thing. Avoid the K&N filter if you're going to be riding off-road. The K&N filter gets it's high flow numbers by allowing up to small animals to pass it's filtration element. Not a good thing for a dirtty, dusty environment.
My KLR250 has a Cobra (read that LOUD) exhaust on it. It sounds good, but I sometimes look for something to plug it with, as it does get obnoxious after a short time.
Getting the "Mohave Kit" for your bike will wake it up. Also going to a 14 tooth countershaft sprocket will help immensely.
Also, you might try coming over to klr650.net and joining us on the KLR250 forum. There is a lot more traffic over there.

Marty, i appreciate the advice more than you know, but could you tell me where to find these parts online? i live in alaska and parts at the dealerships up here are rediculously priced, also could you be a little more specific about the parts and their installation or give me some websites on installing them. i'm just a beginner, and learning, but i work on f-16 fighters for a living so i think i can figure it out with a little guidance. THANKYOU very much
Okay, here's some places to check . . .
http://www.dynojet.com/jetkits/atv/kawasaki.php - this is the dynojet site and the Mojave 250 is list here - same carb as the KLR250.
http://www.ronayers.com is a great site for all replacement parts
http://bikebandit.com is another site for lots of parts
http://cyclepages.com is another parts site
H'mmm, F-16 wrench. Sounds simple. The F-4 Phantoms had two engines. So yours is simpler!

Uh thanks for the web sights but i beg to differ about the aircraft comments. the F-4 is proof that if you put enough thrust on something, it will fly. The F-16 is much faster and more maneuverable, and the engine is alot more advanced, to bad it is being replaced by the F-35 ( the f22 raptors little brother) which is even more advanced. thanks again for the advice marty and for the site's!!!
There are other forums where you can find good information--I search all the forums I can find to get info and still need more since I'm a noob at tuning carbs and stuff like that.
There's a KLR250 Yahoo Goup:
http://autos.groups.yahoo.com/group/KLR250/
..and Thumpertalk has a KLR250 forum:
http://www.thumpertalk.com/
(should be able to find those with a web search if the URLs don't post here)
Going to a 14 tooth front sprocket is a good cheap mod for making the bike a little quicker on the low end (sacrifice some at top end). Opening up the airbox and re-jetting also helps for very little $. I don't have an aftermarket exhaust but wish I did.
