kz1000 wont stay running:
I have a 81 kz1000 that will not stay running. I have fully redone the fuel system, tank, petcock, carb, and rubber boots. Started troubleshooting the spark, got no fire on cylinder 1 and 4. Replaced the coil since it was the cheapest and easiest. Still no fire, i am going by the manual but it says there should only be 2-4 volts at the coil and I have 12. My next step is the manually engage the electronic module to see if I can by pass the ic igniter. Does this sound like I am on the right track, or is there a fuseable link between the coil and pic up. Electrical diagram does not have one listed. Please help, getting very frustrated. Its nice out side and I want to ride.
hmmmm, if your not getting the proper voltage to the coil your gonna have to trace the ignition system al the way back and test everything per the manual. Its a PITA but something is messed up prior to the coil, could be getting power from somewhere its not supposed to or a bad part somewhere in the system. Make sure you check the condition of the wiring as you move through the system, could be a short somewhere. Wish I could help you more.
Welcome back!
Welcome back!
Thanks all, haven't got to check. Dragone going to do the two checks, before I get into the wires. Pickup coil is easy to do and I have read it. Just have to get back to bike. I do appreciate all the help and I will keep all up dated.
