I have a 1982 Spectre 750


(not my personal bike but same model)

And I've got some rust on the pipe where it curves and goes into the engine. Does anyone have any recommendations on a product to use to help this? All I can find online is stuff for chrome pipes but mine aren't chrome.

A good wire brushing to clear the rust and use a hot flat black stove paint/ or something similar high temp.

 

Hey UF, rust never sleeps. If you plan to keep your bike "forever," and it's worth the cost to you, you might consider going with Jet Hot Coat. Do a Google for them. If you have black pipes and a budget, Drag's suggestion^ will work just fine. I used to do the high temp black on my old Honda 900F pipes, and it seemed to last pretty well. Might want to get a high zinc content primer (stops rust) before the stovepipe spray.

Good point jeff. I erased my acid solution on this cleaning topic, since normally most people will change out the headers soon.

 

Great advice, I didn't know there was paint available for purchase that would work. I'll let you guys know how it works out, whenever I get around to doing it.

 

If the wire brush does not work take a wire wheel to it depending on the dept of hte rust. Be sure just to hit it though. You will scratch your metal if you get too carried away with it.

After you get everything off, there is a cotton rub stuff that comes in a can that polishes and is a deoxidizer
