Default Is my dealer price gouging?

I live in southern Arizona, USA so Tucson and Phoenix are in my "neck of the woods". I travel to Oklahoma City and Dallas/Fort Worth often so, those areas and points in between are fair game for a dealer recommendation.

The price I was quoted was over $5600 for a new KLX-250S.
[ul][*] MSRP for the motorcycle[*] + $275 delivery charge (to them, not me [sm=rolleyes.gif])[*] + $275+ for "setup"[*] + $300 for a document fee[*] + $some other misc. charges with %7.6 sales tax
[/ul]

Is this a reasonable price for an all cash buyer? I felt the hard sell and felt like I was being price gouged.

I'm willing to try other dealers anywhere between Arizona and Texas/Oklahoma if someone has a recommendation for a good "mom & pop" place that will treat me right and won't give me the hard sell with high priced gear and accessories to protect myself.

Thanks!
Sid

I recomend you go to Kawasaki's web site and get the nubers of all the dealers in your area and call them up and tell them your paying cash and want to no whats the best price they can offer you out the door. Thats what I did and got mine for $4,870 out the door. If your paying cash they should cut u some slack.

The document fee is a little high and unfortunately the sales tax in your area is very high. So $5,600 is not totally unreasonable... although you should be able to do better.

I paid $4400 total and financed it for 24 months. State sales tax will be about $300 when I decide to get tags for it.

$4400 total? Hmmm let's break it down, here is what I paid, and yes I agree that some of the fees are questionable, but here goes. Compare it to what you all paid and let's talk.

Total Unit Price: $4,709.00
Freight Charge: $200.00
Handling Fee $175.00

Subtotal $5,084.00

8.3% Tax $422.00

Licence & Fees: $50.00

Total $5,556.00

I also opted for the 4 additional years of warranty for $440.00 (my piece of mind) So when people say they got the bike for less than $5,000 out the door, then we can only assume that the base price was somewhere in the $4,000 range, and that is a good price. But doesn't everyone have to pay taxes? I'm confused, but at least you guys can take a look at what I paid and compare.

Let me see,
The total for my bike was $5,050 and this included %7.5 taxes, helmet, straps, goggles. So I think close to $5,000 is about normal after everything is payed for, including taxes.
Wow JC, do you not have any taxes in your area?? I payed $4,500 for just the bike itself, but add on everything mentioned earlier and it shot up the price.

Sid. That's too much. Call Grapevine Kawasaki (Right next to Dallas/Ft. Worth Airport) and pick one up next time you come to Big D.

I found a dealer in West VA that sells at whole sale prices. Their price for the KLX 250 is $4295 + $25 Doc. fee. That was OTD!!! If I add the $90 I spent for gas to ride up there (250 mi. trip from VA one way) that gives me a total of $4410. I still need to transfer tags from my old bike and will have to pay tax when thats done but I feel like the deal was very good. Personaly anything under $5000 OTD seems reasonable.
