Default Need advice on Carb Adjustments

Ok, I'm ordering the Dyno Jet kit, 13T sprocket, and snorkle for improvement right now, maybe a Muzzy later down the line, Thats alot o money.
The advice needed is really nooby advice, but I need it because I am a noob. Anyways when taking out the carb, do you run the engine with the fuel in the "Off position" to burn out any gas in the carb so that when you disconnect all the hoses off the carb you wont have fuel going everywhere, or am I just way off here lol? Also, when taking apart the carb, what are the "MAJOR THINGS" that I want to really avoid doing while taking it apart, I remember Todd saying don't let the spring fly out and not to pinch the diaphram, anything else to add to that? Just trying to be as precautious as possible.
And the 13T sprocket should work just fine with the chain we have on the bike now right? Can't wait to get the parts so that I can start the mods. You guys think this is a legit dyno kit, I heard there are some that are fakes, but this is a good price. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...RK%3AMEWA%3AIT

Take the carb off the bike, then using a allen wrench open the valve on the bottom of the carbs to drain the bowl into the gas tank.

Second tip, don't disconnect all the hoses on the tank. Unbolt the petcock, leaving it hanging from the tank and just remove the fuel hose from the petcock to the carbs. Of course don't forget ot turn the fuel to OFF before disconnecting the fuel line.

The hardest part of working one the carb is getting the diaphram back into the groove. The first 2 times i did it, it was easy to get into hte groove, every time after that it's been a 15 minute struggle. Maybe it stretched after removing it a couple times. The scond hardest thing is getting the large rubber air pipes seated on the carb. Everything else is easy.

Getting the diaphragm to set is much easier if you put some grease/Vaseline in the grove. I chose to use the stock needle with two small washers under the head, and a 122(stock pipe +stock snorkel) 125jet(stockpipe+ high flow snorkel) 128(drilled pipe+ high flow), jets are $3. If you nervous, video tape yourself.

Im actually using a 128 with my Muzzy and high flow snorkle, but the dynojet kit comes with an aggressively tapered needle. I has a 122 in with he drilled out exhaust and that was a little lean on the top end.

You take a 1/2" drill bit and stick up the end of the muffler pipe and drill out the baffle plate inside. It reduces backflow in the muffler but significantly increase the noise level. The stock is almost as quiet as my car, so any change increases the volume.

I read somewhere else that a guy drilled a number of holes in the backplate of the exhaust then put screws in the holes, that way you just remove the amount of screws u want for extra power / noise

Funny how this is so subjective. I couldn't tell any difference in noise when I drilled mine except for maybe a little bit at high RPM.

Maybe you just need a longer drill bit to get the job done!
