Default No street riding for me!!

I just read some really horrible report about a street biker, I dont think that I will be doing too much street bike, AT ALL!! I think I will just use this for what I originally intended it for, to be used on fire roads to explore. Am I the only person who likes to just take it easy on a motorcycle and not try to do all kinds of crazy jumps, tricks, ect... I have 2 kids and a wife, and I love the freedom of a motorcycle, but I just like to cruise at a easy speed, hmmm.. maybe Im just lame. Oh well, heres the link to the article, it happened about 5 minutes down the road I live from. http://www.paulding.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=37487
Poor guy. I still plan on getting my license, but thats just in case I NEED to get on the road to get to another fire road. Reading that just freaked me out, thats all I have to say.

Just finished reading all of the posts on that site. [&o] Very sad. Think about it though dude, he was stunting faster than the speed limit, in traffic. I'm 27 and all I want is to do is learn this sport and get good at it to where I'm not a danger to me or others on the road. I'm not out to learn to wheelie (not on streets with traffic going 50 MPH anyway) or anything like that and I doubt that you are too. Just be safe out there incabiker, gear up and watch out for blind drivers.

Ya you sound like me too. I will learn what I need to learn just to ride safe. I need to learn how to wheelie better to get over obstacles off road and what not, but just enough to be a safe rider, exactly how you said it. Like I said, if I need to pull a wheelie to get over an obstacle, then that I will do. But there is no need for me to go over a jump and sail 50 ft through the air, sure sounds fun and all, but thats not what I Like. I just want to ride the "unexplored"(for me at least) service roads in the mountains at an easy pace and take in all the great beauty. Put it this way, I did not by my Toyota tacoma to push it to the limit every day and see how long it takes me to go from 0 to 60, or how sharp of a turn I can take without tipping the truck over, I could really care less. I'm the type of guy who like a nice slow Sunday cruise around the mountains in my truck, rather then taking a beefed up mustang and laying rubber in the road every time I come to a red light, hey if thats what you like to do more power to ya, but thats just not me. Seems like i don't fit into the biking world too much, but thats all right, everyones got something that floats their boat, and don't let other people tell you other wise, do what makes you happy Oh ya and I'm 26, sounds like Im 40 don't I lol.

Yeah, you have to anticipate other peoples mistakes. I always assume the other person doesn't see me so I'm ready for anything they might do. I've been street riding since I was 14, I'm 23 now, and have had some close calls, but if you stay on your toes you should be ok. I've noticed riding motorcycles has helped my car driving as well. I'm a lot more aware and am always scanning around looking for other drivers to make mistakes. Just be careful. And don't do anything stupid on the street, like wheelies, stoppies, etc. Not only can you get hurt, but go to jail for wreckless driving, at least you can in FL.

by the sounds of it the kid had no helmet, no fear, no common sense, and no business what-so-ever to be on the road. Motorcycles are more responsability than some can handle. But don't let it spook you about riding on the road because im sure there are articles out there that might make you think twice about driving a car also, but then you do it anyway with a new sense of awareness. Take this story and become a better rider from it.

You took the words right out of my mouth. I'm not into ridding fast, or doing any crazy stunts. I just want to have fun and live to ride another day.

I think that is a common stereotype applied by non-bikers. There are plenty of us who don't hot-dog, so you should fit in just fine. For every hot-dogger out there, there are ten who are not. People just happen to remember the guy on the crotch rocket who blew past them in a blur and lump all bikers into the bucket.

I also fly airplanes and there's a saying we have: "There are old pilots, and there are bold pilots, but there are no old bold pilots." Might be at apt description of bikers, too.

Very true, I have seen those old videos that they used to show at school to make you be a safe driver, that seems even more scary to me. The guy I saw was slammed on the side by some drunk driver. The police ran up to the car to open the door, and the guy (not the drunk guy, the innocent guy who was going home to his family) was just tangled in a knot of steel, his organs were spilled, his head was cocked the wrong way, legs were behind his back ect... Anyways the guy was still alive and was begging the officer to shoot him and end it because it was so painful!
Now that is horrible too.
Ya your right, I just read that article about the bike and had that image in my head. But still, I just want to ride it on fire roads and whatnot, I noticed that I am a very careful drive and always stay on my toes while driving my truck, I always look twice before going through an intersection which just turned green, I watch out for the idiots on the cell phones, Im always scanning, I like my truck and don't need other people to mess it up.

LOL, it seems that every biker I know likes to go to the trails and ride them hard, I'm talking bout going 55 mph. through single track and laying it wide open on really hairy situations off road going 80 mph, and I'm like[sm=WTFsgign.gif]. I told them I got a bike and they ask me if I want to go riding, I say hell no, you guys are crazy bastages, Im just going to explore. I havent met anyone who just like to cruise and explore yet, thats why I was estatic when I found out about dual sport motorcycles, thats what I've always wanted.

Well I must be an exception to the rule. I like to crawl slow on trails, and that's precisely why I changed the front sprocket down to a 13 tooth so I could ride even slower on challenging trails. So again let's reiterate that you are not the only one who likes to take it easy and to not end up in the ER. LOL. Hey since we like the same type of ridding, why don't you come here and ride with me? Oh sure it might cost hundreds of dollars or perhaps thousands, but I promise you won't be disappointed with the logging roads and trails here.
