Default Need a new engine

Hey guys, new to the forum and it looks great, seems to be full of good info!

As much as I would like my first post to be about great riding and my bike running well... it's not gonna be. I was out riding yesterday and we came up to a red light and while sitting there my buddy revved his bike up which started a whole chorus of bikes being twisted up just for grins atleast until I revved mine. Just quick twist of the throttle to 9 or 10 grand and when it came back down it idled for a second then died. At first I thought no big deal it was just my idle was a bit low and cause it to die when it came off free rev real quick, but when I started it back up ( and it started easy ) it had a bad knock and never made so much as a sound before this. I've worked on cars for a long time but have no experience with bikes internally, I have no fear of tearing into something new to see whats wrong and if I can fix it, hell I just tore my 300ZX apart and as much of a nightmare as it was everything went back together right and it runs like a top now.

What I really need is some links to a few sites to get new internals for the existing motor, or links to a few salvage yards that I might be able to find a good motor in, everytime I search though Google I just get crap ebay links.

The way I see it I have 3 options

1. rebuild what I have and maybe beef it up a bit
2. get a whole new motor and just drop it in.....or
3. get the BRG conversion kit and drop in a 9R motor

I would like to do the swap over to a 9R but from what I've heard the kit is only for the 94-96 motors which is just a punched out 750 (which I can't see but like I said I have little experience with them ) so I don't know if it's worth it. And on top of that the tranny for the existing 7R is a fresh rebuild with "race cut and hardened gears" according to the previous owner, so in a way that makes me want to just do a rebuild on the engine

Any input and opinions on this would be greatly appriciated

* On a side note for the real knowledgable Kawi techs out there, If what I have heard is true and the pre 98 9R motors really are worked 750s then is it possible to swap in the 9R and still use the built tranny I have so I can get the best of both worlds? (fat chance, life's just not that good)

I have always liked the rebuild and beef up scenario's. Have you checked out www.zx7rider.com yet? I have not seen a rebuild on there yet, but one of the members is riding with a 9 motor.
