Default shifting

I bought my first bike today. 01 Z-7R. Yellow/black It has 17kmiles on it. It has the vance and hines ssr2 exhaust on it and a k&n. My question is do I need to use the clutch when upshifting. On my dirt bike I didn't but I didn't know if it was any different on a street bike or not?

yes and no Some people say its bad for the bike and some say it is designed to work like that. I do it off and on on my 05 636. As long as y know how to i guess it wont hurt any thing, but that is highly debatable. I guess this really didnt help much.
