Default Home & Auto Improvements at 112º

Too hot to ride but not too bad in the shade which means... home improvement time!

I'm having so-oooo much fun painting and putting in a new deck surface in the heat - NOT! I've got way too much Tom Sawyer in me to be doing this and that's why it's taking me so long, plus the hernia and operation slowed me down by a month.

The previous deck was redwood which eventually got weathered in this heat so we put down 3/4" waterproof plywood and outdoor carpeting. Well the carpet has been replaced twice in 16 years - turns to dust in the scorching dry Arizona heat. So I said WTF, went with this treated wood which cost as much as the crap outdoor carpeting!

Also had to put some new tires on the Rodeo, decided on Firestone Destination AT's this time since TireRack.com ave them raving reviews, the Yokohama Geolander AT's barely latest two years and 30,000 miles. The Firestone mechanics (yeah, right) told me the front and rear rotors were shot (warped) and so were the pads. Of course they wanted a small fortune to do a complete brake job - I said - No Way! Drove it home and checked the brake pads - 70% left on the front, 40% on the back, but the front rotors were warped so bought new ones online (major cheap!) and replaced the front pads anyhow. The back was fine, the rotors were true to a tee!

It's getting awfully cramped in the garage! You can see the box with all the old Kawi green parts.

New paint, still need to finish the railings (went with a rust red) but I got most of the outside house painting done in May.

Looks great, mang - but at 112 degrees? Screw that!

The only home improvements I do at those temps is in lowering the inside temp of the house. CRANK that AC, baby!

(btw... 75 degrees, 25% humidity, and the windows are open right now... have been all week!)

Hey Marc I love the house and the work you are doing is top notch in my book. Wow a pool too, you are styling for sure. Oh and I like the gratuitous shots of the KLX. Very nice. If I ever made it there I would actually drink some beer with ya, and I hate beer so that's saying something. Nice job man.

Yep, it's a pretty cool place, of course not now with it in the 100's. The boards I got at Lowes but Home Depot sells them but didn't have any in stock. They are a brand called TruWood which is basically recycled wood chips that are pressure treated, waterproofed and pre-painted. Not as durable as the plastic wood they have out there but it's a fraction of the price.

Okay, went and picked up the cold Corona's, where to drink them? Pool? The unfinished Deck or watch Dust To Glory in the den or get back online. Yep, three down nine to go! Called KawiKathy and she's coming over to help finish them off - thank god the girlfriend is out of town! Deej, NoBrakes, EMS, etc., "me casa es su casa"!

Oh and yes those are my old Alaska plates on the front with the Arizona plates on the back!
