Default WHAT KIND OF HELMET?

Whats up everyone, today I put 30 miles on the klx 250 today. love this bike..while riding today I notice the wind noise was very loud from my helmet. It is an MX helmet and now its time to replace it. I'am pretty sure that I am going to get another MX helmet. Just dont know what kind to get so any info on a good helmet would be great!

I know that ear plugs would work great but I don't like to wear them.I know that wind noise will always be their but I am looking for a helmet that might minimize the noise. Just wondering what other dual sporters are wearing. MX or street helmets.

Noise? Oh well I guess since I don't have to ride far to go anywhere, I haven's really noticed any noise, and you want you're cheek pads to fit tight. If you can chew gum with the helmet on and not bite you're inside cheeks, then it's too loose. I learned the hard way. I tried to eat a cracker with the helmet on and bit tha wall of my cheek. but that's just me. I got a free helmet with the bike, and bought a matching one for the wife, and it just so happens that her and my son wear the exact size. Mine is a Vega helmet. Free works for me. Hey on another note I stopped down at our small town local friend of mine's machine shop and had him make a 135 thousandths spacer, he did it in 5 minutes. I put it on with the sprocket and ran the adjusters from 2 to 5.5 and everything was great I really noticed a difference in the first gear take off. I might do the back in the future, but for now I'll see how this works.

edit, I didn't notice that the chain was any louder, so that's good.

WEAR EAR PLUGS! You may not mind the wind noise, but at that frequency(what ever kHz it is), can damage your hearing over time. I find that this bike shoves the wind up under my helmet, very annoying in the cold weather.

What up man,
I would say to just go with a street bike helmet. Thats what I'm gonna due. I've always had MX helmets but there just not designed for long hauls. It might look a little stupid in the trail with your buddy's but who cares. You'll be comfortable and thats all that matters. Where you from in NY. I live right on the border between NY and CT by Westchester. Maybe you could hook me up with some new trails to go riding. I would appreciate it man....

Actually a road bike helmet looks goofy with this bike no matter where you plan to ride. I got the MX Helmet (matching green of course) and I got to say I can't imagine wearing a full face road helmet. You would look like those MX riders from the early 70's, MX bike and road helmet, LOL I also wear MX goggles and it's like being behind a windshield.

Disclaimer: No riders from the 70's were hurt in the making of this post. Also if you already wear a road helmet with this bike, I apologize in advance LOL

Its a helmet, i see it as comfort etc. who cares what it looks like on you, goffy etc. it will cut down on the noise and thats your main concern, where no super cross champs here tryin to impress the locals!!!

I, personally, have not found any helemets yet that completely stop wind noise, so I've gone back to using the same set-up I used to use in my early racing years -- a 3/4 helmet, with flip-up face shield (the kind they used to call a "competition face shield", except they couldn't be flipped up. I use an AFX4 -- low priced, but good quality, fits perfect (important!) with clear flip-up shield -- stops bugs, dirt, low-flying birds, locust plagues (last year) etc. -- I have a new, un-used HJC Symax full-face (flip-up, too) that I may use someday. I stopped using dirt-bike helmets with big visors and goggles -- not so good on high-speed road riding. Besides, did you ever get a bee or wasp lodged in that type of helmet, up between the goggles, and your hairline? Been there, done that, and gonna keep my flip-up face shield, which deflects everything (had 'em go down the back of my neck, into my jacket, too -- dang it still hurts, what that bugger did to my back, plus I nearly went off the drop-off on the right side of a high mountain dirt road, trying to stop and get the jacket off at the same time before the bugger got me, but, too late....).
Anyway, I routinely wipe off the splatters from some awful big stuff, and always feel glad that I had my face covered at the time!
No more MX helmets for me.
