I joined the KF a few days ago and just to let you know I'm new to this forum stuff so if I make any mistakes please forgive me. Anyway I posted a question on the new members area and so far no one has responded. I hope by asking again in this section (?) maybe one of you big twin riders might have a reply. Here's the question. "Has anyone any experience with the Kuryakyn Pro-Series Hypercharger? Does it really make that much of a difference to justify the cost?"
Anyone else riding the '05 Nomad? Hope to hear from you!

Thanks,
James

I would suggest you try searching the internet, you might find something.

The advice I received from a known builder of Harley Hi Per engines was not to use the air cleaner in question. This advice was based on poor results from the DYNO runs during the tuning phase. It may look nice but doesn't seem to do much. Of course I would due more research on the internet to gain a broader range of opinions. The best source is a builder/tuner familiar with the Vulcan Nomad. Try Valley Motorsports in Phoenic, AZ or Thunder MFG in same city and state (www.thundermfg.com). They have experience with Nomad since the first in 1999.

If I may offer this advice from years of experience and wasted money. In most cases the HP and Torque gained from High dollar add ons is minimal with rare exception. I have modified with add ons and dynoed most all of my machines and in only one case did I achieve at least a ten per cent gain in HP and Torque. Keep in mind the Nomad 1600 is not quite the same as the 1500. FI bikes can be quirky if U make the wrong add on choice. If u fool around with the intake and exhaust it also requires adjustment to the FI system. If U choose to modify along these lines U may want to condider Dynojet Commander or Techlusion FI systems. Be careful, as a too lean mixture can ruin an engine. Just adding a freer breathing intake is not going to make much difference in most cases.

Do some real research. It will save money and aggravation from disappointment.

Just traded all my Harleys for the 06 Nomad. Beautiful machine and best bang for the buck in its class. I owned the first Nomad in 99. Also a great machin.

Good luck and safe riding

I just read your response, thanks for the info. If I decide to go with a freer intake (still haven't decided what brand to go with) and exhaust system (either Cobra or Vance & Hines) I would indeed get a Power Commander module (?) for my bike. I would most likely have my local Kawasaki shop do the programming... that's if I felt I'd be getting into the deep end of the swimming pool. What I'm experiencing now is a lagging throttle response-or maybe I'm expecting too much?
On another note, I installed the Cobra light bar made specifically for the 1600D. It took about 45 minutes and it looks GREAT. I also installed a rear turn signal conversion kit that turns the rear turn signals into additional running/stop lights. As soon as I figure out how to post a photo or two of my bike for all to see I'll do it.
Once again, thank you for the info. you provided. I'll check out what the Thunder link has to say.

James,
Where did you get the rear turn signal conversion kit? Does it replace the yellow lens with Red?

Greetings Jecool2!

Good to hear from you. I ordered my conversion kit from my local kawasaki shop, you can check out the kit at The Electric Connection.com
The kit does not replace the stock yellow lens, what's cool about it is that the red LEDs that come with the kit fit inside the stock lens and the red LEDs are so intense, they show through the yellow lens. You don't notice them much during the day but when the sun goes down they are very noticable. Everyone who I ride with say they look very cool and make a big difference on my visibility from the back. Mission accomplished....

Ride safe

I just purchased a brand new 2007 Nomad. Anyone else have it? How do you like it? Break-in is a pain in the butt, but I guess it's worth it in the end. Not as powerful as I would have liked, but hey it's a cruiser.

I just brought my new 2007 Nomad 1600 home on Saturday 5/5/07. I like it. I traded in a Suzuki C50. The nomad has a lot more power.

I just traded by 2002 Drifter for a 2006 Nomad. I miss the Drifter's style but I love all the extras and now that I have had some time to get used to the extra weight, I love the Nomad. In an ideal world, I would have had enough money to keep the Drifter and buy the Nomad too but I aint complaining.

Break it in like you're going to drive it every day. Don't lug it, or run it to redline, but I wouldn't reccomend following Kawasaki's advice on breakin.

I sort of followed the bookadvise on break-in, it wasn't to bad. I too went from a c50t to the Nomad. Keep in mind you doubled the engine size and added only a third more weight. My mpg is only 33 to 36, I do miss the 48 to 50. Got 1100 miles on it, it may do better later.

James.

I've modified my05, 1600Nomad with Vance & Hines Bagger Exhaust, Duel K&N breathers, Block Off Plates, After Market Fuel & Ignition Systems with settings you can set with a screw driver and some extra body mods. My Nomad has increased it's power band significantly, But as with all power increases i've lost about 4MPG from running a richer mixture. "A VERY SMALL TRADE OFF FOR THE POWER GAIN". Anyway... i'm having fun with the bike! Good luck and always ride for the " SUNSETS".[:-]

Is that what you guys are getting for MPG with the 1600's, 33 to 35 MPG?

I ride a 2006 Nomad with a pc III , V&H's baggers with a Thunder intake and Dragtron II air breather.
35 MPG.

I just bought a 2004 Nomad with 856 miles on it.
Does anyone know what the break in procedures are for this.
I'm sure the original owner never took it back to a dealer or anything.
I changed the engine oil and filter and I changed diff. fluid.
Not sure if anything needs to be done to the motor, etc. ???

I've put 14m+ miles on my "05 Nomad running V&H baggers, Cobra FI2000R processor, and a Cadmanintake kit(see VROC.org) I'm running Mobile 1 v-twin oil and have had nothing but preferred results (38 mpg @ 3300 ft elevation). The 1600 FI Nomad was truly a step up from my '98 1500Classic and I'm sure you'll find the dependability outstanding.

Hey Sirlion.
I just purchased the Vulcan Nomad 2007 model.
I love this bike.
The differential fluid isn't an often change.
My dealer is a mechanic too not a car salesman type.
He took me in the shop and I worked along side him while
he changed the oil, filter and cleaned out the mesh strainer.
He showed me things on the bike I know I would not have learned
from the MOM or from any other dealer.
He told me all other fluids put on a two year change out including the
differential.
At 500-600 miles initial change, then 4000 for oil. See MOM for that stuff.

What are you riding? A nomad? What color?
What gas mileage are you getting?
Best,
Ken

James and Nomad1470,

Greetings! Yes, I'm a new ('06) Nomad owner and take delivery in less than 2 weeks! I decided on this bike over a couple of other contenders (Honda vtx1800 and Yamaha RoadStar Silverado Midnight) because I, too, felt it is the best value in its class. Plus, I just can't get past the fact that it LOOKS exactly like what I invision the cruiser of my dreams to look like: all black, hardbags and duals. Works for me!

Anyway, I've included V&H Baggers and the PCIII in my initial purchase (along with lightbar w/ visors and the luggage rack) and am having the dealership install all and map the PCIII. The dealership advised me AGAINST purchasing what I thought to be the obligatory aftermarket air intake right away, stating that I should try the upgrades with the stock intake unit first to see how the combination works. I was pleasantly surprised to hear the owner/dealership reccomend this as I was expecting them to say, "well, you have to increase the air intake... blah blah blah". But, he noted that the stock unit sucks in air pretty efficiently and suggested I wait. Which is fine by me even though I do have a Thunder Tornado unit from my trade-in Boulevard that all I would need is the adaptor for the Nomad for.

Where are you guys located? I sure would like to meet up with other Nomad riders and show off our stuff en masse. I live in Ventura County, CA, just north of Los Angeles County, along the coast. Great local rides and destinations in this area: Ojai,Lake Cachuma, The Rock Store in Malibu, Neptune's Net along Pacific Coast Highway, Cold Springs Tavern in the mountains above Santa Barbara.... etc.

Anyway, just wanted to chime-in with hopes of contacting other Nomad enthusiasts and talk shop!

Cheers,
Daryl

I'm new to this forum but I joined it because I have some questions and I was hoping someone out ther could help me out...I just recently bought a 99 kawasaki vulcan nomad 1500 and I love it, its big and beautiful a real step up from what i had been riding, anyway it runs great but there is a knocking noise when it idles, it doesn't do it when I'm riding just when I'm coming to a stop or when I let off the throttle, its kinda annoying but sometimes its bad sometimes its not is there anybody out there that can tell me what it is and how to fix it? I know they say its normal and its due to the clutch basket not being the right size but I just want it to go away and its gonna be weeks b4 my dealer can take a look at it and I want to get it fixed asap....any help would be greatly apprecciated...thnx...

I bought my 07 Nomad in Sept. Don't get the gas milage I did with my 02 1500 FI and not as much power. I've got 8200 miles on it now and it's a lot stronger but milage still bad. 36 to 40. I dearly love riding it and my wife loves it, too.

Picked up a new 2007 Nomad three weeks ago and all I get for weather is cold and/or rainy ever since. I was looking at other bikes but when I saw the Nomad, I said to myself, what more could I want its fully dressed. I had the dealer add a light bar (cobra). My wife was sceptical but when she saw the Red and Silver she said buy it. "We'll take it" and I've been impatiently waiting for sunshine and warmth ever since. Does anyone know if there were any changes for the model year 2008 over 2007? My dealer wasn't sure.

Anyone have the new sound system yet? Is there an aftermarket system that anyone suggests?
