Need any info. on what caused eng. oil consumption. Bike has 26k miles. Recent services performed were 24k service. Traveled 2600 miles and consumed 2.5 qts oil which caused eng. to seize. No leaks apparent. New spark plugs show carbon from oil consumption. Has any one came across this problem or have any idea what could have caused this?

Sounds like the rings on the pistons are shot.

Is this a concern with this model of bike? This bike is new to me . Bought from first owner recently. Has any one seen a failure like this at seemingly low mileage?ORIGINAL: bigfoot081960

hmm, not to be a pessimist, you checked out the recalls on the VN's? That is alot of oil in such a short time.

not if he still had enough compression to go 2600miles, haha did the dealer do the work on the unit?, on the model you need to put oil in, run it for 1 minute, put more oil in run another minture until its in spec, you cant go through that much oil if you never had it to begin with

Dealer has agreed to help cover repair due to past eng. oil pump failures. Will post results when job is complete.:)
