Looking at Vulcan 500

New to site.
I've been riding on and off (mostly off) for some time
and now I'm looking to get my M- License and my first
bike.
I've always been particial and have riden in the past
the Vulcans. Already looked in the safety courses and
what is involved with the license process.
So now to get the bike. I would like to look at the Vulcan
500 (2000-2006) for my first bike as the insurance
companies here in Ontario quotes that I have gotten are
indicating that for the at least the first year, no bigger than
a 500.
What should I look for in a used one? Are there any weak points
for this model? Anything special I should prepare myself for with
this Vulcan?
Thanks
Mine is a 2002 so things may have changed but the frame on mine is the 800cc frame. So you're getting a bigger bike for the insurance rate for a 500.Also my gas mileage veries between 57mpg and 59mpg which the 6th gear helps achive. Both good money saving tips.
Really don't have anything negative to say except highway pegs were a bear to find.

I bought my wife a Vulcan 500 LTD. I rode it right up until I left the states, and I have nothing negative to say about it. It's got enough power to be practical, gets good gas mileage, and it's comfortable as hell. I take that back, there's one thing I don't like about it, and that's the way the handlebars are. They aren't held down with the clamps that make changing the bars easy. But other than that, it's a great bike!
